Just for Beauty

Author: Melisinka  //  Category: Beauty, goth

As I’m procrastinating wildly in relation to my impending trip to ‘Nam, i am finding my chosen method of filling up the hours is to browse for beautiful images. And there are SO MANY! Damn! It’s an addiction I cannot afford, my friend.

Just to be able to tap in any name that appeals to me and watch in wonder as page after page full of pictures present themselves to me is overwhelmingly satisfying on a visual level. Last night I was all over Zoe Jakes, Vampires, the Princess and the Pea, the Suicide Girls, Oak Forests, Love Letters, Waterhouse paintings and Gothic Graveyards. I’ve just hopped off Gaudi and Vasalav Nijinsky (after whom my cat was named). The world is beautiful, after all. Maybe i should let the pictures do the talking. Maybe my whole website should just be about beauty…

See? Gothic tombstone in decay. Beautiful. Now i realize some people find graveyards morbid, but i find them fascinating. Monuments to the dead, existing in that realm that neither exists nor has ceased to exist. The Twilight Zone, if ever there was one. So very different to modern cemeteries or, god forbid, crematoriums with those mean little plaques on a tacky brick wall. What an insult to all that is beautiful and individual and irreplacable in a person. It’s the equivalent to housing commission flats for the afterlife. To any who might read this after i die, PLEASE never do this to me!!! I swear i’ll come back and haunt the crap out of you if you do! Either bury me under a tree (oak, or willow please) or just under an apple tree in the backyard if you can’t afford a gargoyle-esque tombstone worthy of my existence. I want to slowly crack and grow moss through my bones…feeding the earth with my richness…

Zoe Jakes. Beautiful. She’s the one at the top of this blog too. Yup, she looks fine…I admit to having always had a fascination bordering on the obsessive with beautiful women. That being said, my particular flavour of women has been mostly far from the mainstream. Growing up as a dark haired girl in a blonde-worshipping culture was, to say the least, demeaning and depressing. We, the dark ones, were always portrayed as the evil  sisters or cousins to the beautiful, good blonde heroines (see “Bewitched”, “I Dream of Jeannie” or whatever, ad nauseum). Of course, as i got older and wiser, i realized how much cooler it was to be the one with the mysterious allure of the dark side, and haven’t looked back. Interestingly enough, the best subcultures around right now are reflecting this dark beauty. Everything from Rockabilly street sweet punk to  Gothic bellydancers is so hot right now….

Oak tree. Oh my god i have died and gone to forest heaven! I could just look at this all day. Dream it all night. I am so in love with this tree it’s ridiculous. Is there anything more divine anywhere ever?! I could wax lyrical about this beauty forever, and bore you silly with superlatives, and it is going to take a degree of control not to, but i would just wreck it, so i’ll simply leave you with the very real vision you have here. Must make a pilgrimage here, though. My British housemate tells me this forest, Savemake, is in the south of the U.K. somewhere near a shire…

I just want more and more and more. My backpack is empty. I haven’t even got it out of the shed yet. I’m just stuck here searching for more and more beauty. It’s my antidote to the modern development epidemic, which no-one refers to as the sickness it actually is. Want one more? Come on, you know you want it..

There. An abandoned Gothic Cathedral for your pleasure. Imagine wandering this in an altered state. Spooky at its absolute best, my friend. Juxtapose mental landscape with local shopping centre and see why i get so upset. Someone called me “precious” the other day in regards to an aesthetic sensitivity issue, and although i wasn’t offended, as i’m used to it by now, i still cannot compromise my position on the absolute importance of beauty no matter where we are. And wanting more of it. More mystery. The more our material world stimulates our emotions and our imagination, the more creative and alive we become, the more we are able to transcend limitations and the mundane. Easy.

Not only do you get the setting, but you get the characters too! Hooray for boobies! Not so sure about what’s in the bowl though. I figure the intenstine thing is sexy somehow on a gory, zombie level or something. But i’ve always been more into vampires, so i’d prefer a glass of nice red myself. Still, look at the loveliness of the pale skin and black hair. Very Snow White with a naughty twist. I figure it’s the incorporation of the shadow into the too-noice image. Works for me.

I’m not usually that into angels, but this one is pretty special. Have him in my garden any day. There is nothing quite like a statue of a beautiful god-like creature in stone is there. Look at the sensual lips and perfect nose. How come no real-life guys look like this? Is it a Roman thing? I’ve been to Roma and i don’t think so. Anyway, glad they paid homage to gorgeousness when they did so we can remember. Lest we forget!
